The Higalaay Festival 2024, a vibrant month-long celebration honoring St. Augustine, Cagayan de Oro City's patron saint, officially kicked off on August 11, 2024, at at Rio de Oro Boulevard
The festival's new highlight, the Higalaay Festival Market, is now open at Rio de Oro Boulevard. With over 80 stalls, visitors can explore a variety of products, from delicious food and refreshing drinks to fresh fruits, trendy apparel, and even vapes. The market, open daily from 12 noon to 12 midnight until August 31, offers a dynamic space for local entrepreneurs and a unique experience for festival-goers.
This year’s festival is notable for its significant budget increase to 24 million pesos, a sharp rise from the 2,035,000 pesos allocated in 2019. Despite the controversy, with space for local vendors costing 50,000 pesos each, the City Information Office stated that the festival will occupy less than 10% of the 2.7 kilometers river dike, leaving the rest of the boulevard open for other uses.
