What is pater?

Before we dive in, let's get to know what Pater is and why you should try it. Pater, also known as pastil, patir, or patel, is a traditional Filipino Muslim dish that originated in Mindanao. This meal is a staple for its affordability and completeness, making it a popular choice in the market.

If you're seeking delicious and budget-friendly food, Pater is a must-try. It's an eagerly awaited dish, especially when paired with palapa, a spicy condiment that perfectly complements it. Pater is a halal Maguindanaon food consisting of rice topped with shredded meat like beef, chicken, or tuna, all wrapped in banana leaves. Typically, it costs around thirty-nine pesos (39.00 PHP), making it an excellent value for a satisfying meal.

Recently, various new toppings have been introduced, adding more variety and making Pater even more crave-worthy. This evolution in toppings has only increased its popularity, solidifying its status as a beloved dish in Cagayan de Oro City.

Where can I buy this in CDO?

Here are the list of PATER store  in cagayan de oro city that you should try on:

•Cogon Mercado Pater

If you find yourself at Cogon Market (Mercado) and want to try pater, you must try this affordable and delicious option. Keep in mind that it is a public market, so the atmosphere is crowded and filled with the distinctive smells. Despite this, the deliciousness of the pater remains undeniable and worth experiencing. Of course, the location is not hard to find. You will find the pater stall inside the public market, or you can ask the people there—surely they will know!

Chesamz Pater CdeO

If you're a Kagay-anon, you’re likely already familiar with this, especially students who always seek budget-friendly meals with the best combos. Chesamz was the first place I tried Pater, introduced to me by my classmate, and it did not disappoint. Their Pater was delicious and what is good about their menu, making it more unique, is that they have many other options, especially in their desserts, which add more balance to the overall taste and I remember how popular the place became, always bustling with students enjoying their meals.

Chesamz has two branches in Cagayan de Oro City, including:

- 9-29 St. Nazareth & JR Borja Corrales Ave (The first branch)

- Another branch located at  Corrales Ave, Cagayan de Oro besides in xavier university.

•Pater Al-Kuwait CDO

If you're looking for a nice setup with a good ambiance, you should check out this Pater. Recently, I visited a local eatery in CDO called Pater Al-Kuwait, where they serve an irresistible Pater. The best part is the scrumptious condiment called palapa, a flavorful combination of scallions, ginger, plenty of chili, and grated coconut. However, the pater itself didn't quite hit the mark for me; it just didn't get my taste buds excited. But that's just my preference—you might find it delightful!

You can find Pater Al-Kuwait at their Corrales Branch, open from 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM, and at their Gastro Food Park stall from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

•Pater sa Canitoan

Perhaps this is the first time you've heard of pater from Canitoan, or maybe a few of you have already tried this delicious dish. Among the three options, I must say this is the best for me. What truly captivates my taste buds is their palapa, which keeps me coming back for more and even ordering takeout. Not to mention, this pater has been featured by other vloggers.

One downside for me is that their menu is limited compared to Chisamz and Al-Kuwait Pater. I hope they will expand their offerings in the future. The place itself is quite basic, but that's not an issue because the quality and taste of their pater make me crave it again and again.
